Reign of Winter: Intimidate The Old, Dying Guy

I wish there were traps in the area with the portal. I do, I think it would be perfectly evil. Maybe my PCs are stronger than the book expects, because they kill stuff pretty quickly, so anything for a challenge now I’m feeling would be of use. We were down a player, but she gave handed off her sheet so that her sister played both witch and bard. I think it worked out fine, both characters tend to try to move the party along over all, so in-character-wise I think that still flowed well. I did end half an hour early for the sake of knowing our missing player would be interested in what was happening, and to be fair, it was also where everyone leveled up. It wasn’t an out of place pause, believe me.

Rise of the Runelords: Run All The Checks

Note: Yes, this was partially published earlier! I’m afraid I was flipping browsers and mixed up buttons. Chrome profiles is a blessing and a curse, let me tell you. Thanks for bearing with me, here’s the completed post.

This week we had a sort of double session, so I decided to just stick them together. A weekend event went a bit funky for us, so instead we headed home and just ran a session there to get us through the rest of the farm area. Then Monday was our usual, still investigating creepy notes and eerie murders. So far, it’s becoming clearer and clearer who might be behind everything, which I’m glad about because I had suspicions early on, but I didn’t want to say it much in character considering I didn’t think Istah would reach the same conclusions as fast as I had. You have to keep a little IC and OOC separation when it comes to these things, after all. She’s far from stupid, but obviously I was functioning with different insight than she has.

Young Centurions: Academics Talk the Best BS

A friend of mine from Fate Community on Facebook wanted to run a playtest for the new Young Centurions game tonight, so you get a bonus entry since I’m still mentally here for it. The game is really fun! You should absolutely check it out if you enjoy the Fate system.

They utilize the Advanced Fate System, which seemed similar to how things ran when we played the Mass Effect game. The game is set during the 1910’s, and the PCs are all Centurians, all younger than 18 years old. Each of them are a Spirit, which is what they draw their powers from. Today was mostly character building with some role play since we had a small turnout.

Reign of Winter: Burn It All

Now, this session I should have brought my laptop cord. I absolutely had enough time to get them through the end of this section. It all went very quickly, I was truly impressed. They took everything well, fast, and without much chance for questioning. I’m sorry, but I’m a little amused that they didn’t get the chance to interrogate anyone.

The group carried onward into the forest, following the worn path and the ever casting Detect Magic. Which was pretty smart, though the game doesn’t make it hard to find your way. The sometimes used Life Oracle was unnecessary this session, as all of our players attended easily this week. Considering I couldn’t hear very well, I think ultimately it went well.

Rise of the Runelords: He’s Just a Casual Necromancer

Every other week, we switch it up. Though I run RoW, our Witch player from that game runs Rise of the Runelords. It’s a good game, lots to do and a load of loot. We’re already in the second book, The Skinsaw Murders, and it’s a truly engaging plot. As much as I enjoy it, I sometimes wonder if I shouldn’t have made a more diplomatic character.

Istah, my Half-Elf Shoanti Trapper Ranger is great at what she does. Her Perception and Survival checks help us out constantly and as long as I remember to search for traps, oh, she’ll find them. I’ve got her loaded down with arrows, masterwork composite longbow, masterwork hand ax, but! I keep forgetting to sit down and make my traps. And my dumb head decided to take the Trapper archetype, so no magic. No magic and no using magic devices even. It’s not the worst decision, but it would have just made my life a little easier if she could sometimes. Ah well, she’s an archer, so she gets pretty far from the actual combat when she can.

Reign of Winter: When Trees Attack

It seems fitting to kick off this blog with talking about the game that I’ve been running. As mentioned elsewhere, I do a Pathfinder game with my friends every other week. The off weeks, someone else runs a different game. For my turn, I run Reign of Winter, a Paizo Pathfinder campaign that dabbles in Russian folklore, history, and me failing miserably at Russian names. And I know my players will let me know as I do.

I gave my players allowance with the hook and they decided to be a misfit group of soldiers left to defend the town itself, as opposed to the border where the High Sentinels run. We have a Half-Fetchling Dirge Bard, a Half-Elf Ax Ranger, a Human Deception Witch, and a Halfling Wizard. On occasion when one of our Halfling can’t make it, we toss in a Human Life Oracle of my creation who mostly gets used for healing, but has surprisingly good aim with her crossbow.
